Prince Philip – my own short tribute

On April 18, 2021, in General, by Lyndon-Farnham

A small number of things have been, and remain, a constant presence in our lives. For most people the royal family are a constant presence as are our own family, long standing friends and other things that have always been meaningful to us.  Prince Philip was a constant figure in my life in so far as he was always there.  For me it was a reassuring presence, never predictable, always inspiring but what impressed me most was his commitment.  He epitomised duty now only surpassed by the Queen which has set such an outstanding example to so many of us wherever we may be.  The very respectful and sincere grief shown by the British people of all ages (even the non royalists) and the messages of condolence from around the world are testimony to this man who overcame huge challenges to, by sheer strength of character, become the most loved and respected patriarch of the modern royal family.  As we reflect upon the duke’s life and the Queen’s loss I very much hope we will, from time to time, remember his legacy and allow it to influence us in the most positive way.
