 – I was present at my first meeting of the Justice System Board today which was very interesting.  I continue to feel slightly uncomfortable though that we do not have any real political accountability or responsibility for Justice and certain areas of related Policy. I need to think more about this and discuss with my colleagues but I believe we should be seriously thinking about creating the post of Justice Minister ..

Changing the subject, The Home Affairs Minister and I were present at a recent Scrutiny Panel hearing which was also an interesting meeting.  I have to say that our Scrutiny Panel (Chaired by Deputy Macon with Connetables of St Martin and St Brelade) are sensible and provide constructive advice which is generally helpful – subsequently, we tend to take on board their views.  I believe this is how effective scrutiny should work.
