The week started with a “Strategic Plan” session for all States Members at St Pauls Centre which was generally productive.  Two days in the States Assembly followed with some important issues debated.  I voted against future plans for the development of the Esplanade Square area to have to come back to the States on the grounds that a) A brand new scheme is being developed in line with the States Master Plan for the area b) The responsibility for approving any new plans lies with the Planning Department and not with the States Assembly c) Having to bring plans back to the States would cause unacceptable delays, and, d) The States of Jersey Development Company (SOJDC – formerly WEB) have stated that the existing number of car parking spaces will be maintained throughout the development process and into the future.
